About Us

We're changing the way kitchens run their ventilation.

Founded in 2024, we offer tailored commercial kitchen ventilation solutions designed to meet the specific demands of Metro Detroit's bustling foodservice industry. We're specialists, not a general HVAC contractor who also does hoods. We work in schools, hospitals, nursing homes, hotels, restaurants, bars, and franchise kitchens, and we handle everything above the cook line as one contractor: one vendor, one schedule, one number.

By partnering with top-tier manufacturers, we deliver advanced kitchen hood and ventilation systems that prioritize safety and efficiency. We don't just install and walk away. We service what we install, so your system keeps running the way it was designed to. Our attention to detail ensures every installation is code-compliant, providing peace of mind and operational efficiency.

Meet Phillip Cote — Owner & Operator of MC²

Michigan Commercial Mechanical Contracting is owned and operated by Phillip Cote, a commercial kitchen ventilation specialist dedicated exclusively to the foodservice industry. A licensed Michigan mechanical contractor with hands-on experience in commercial hood systems, exhaust ventilation, make-up air, and code-compliant kitchen mechanical work, Phillip built MC² to fill a major gap in the industry: the lack of true specialists focused solely on commercial kitchen ventilation.

Rather than operating as a general HVAC contractor, Phillip chose to specialize in commercial kitchens because of the technical complexity, safety requirements, and operational demands these systems require. His knowledge runs to both sides of the kitchen. Years as a manufacturer's representative gave him a deep understanding of the foodservice equipment that lives under the hood, the ranges, fryers, combi ovens, pizza ovens, and charbroilers, and how much heat and grease each one throws. Most ventilation contractors never see that side. Phillip designs around it.

That depth comes from somewhere. Phillip genuinely loves kitchens and the people who run them. He grew up around them, cooks himself, and respects what it takes to run a line every night. When he walks into a kitchen, he sees the way a chef moves through it, the heat off the broiler, the corner where the air goes dead. To him a hood isn't a steel box bolted to the ceiling. It's the difference between a kitchen that's miserable to work in and one that runs clean, cool, and safe. That's why he does this.

From restaurants and bars to schools, hospitals, nursing homes, hotels, and large-scale foodservice facilities, Phillip understands that proper ventilation is critical not only for comfort, but also for fire safety, compliance, and daily business operations. Under Phillip's leadership, MC² is built on the integrated model, one contractor for ventilation, cleaning, and fire suppression, and on systems that run trouble-free for the people who depend on them every day. The company's mission is simple: provide Metro Detroit's commercial kitchens with expert ventilation solutions, honest communication, and reliable service backed by specialized industry knowledge.

Community & Safety Mission: Reducing Fire Risk Across Detroit

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, cooking is the leading cause of fire in commercial buildings, responsible for about 30% of all nonresidential building fires.¹ When we look at restaurants only, the number climbs. The National Fire Protection Association states that cooking equipment causes 61% of fires in eating and drinking establishments.² The common thread is grease.

Two systems stand between that grease and a disaster. The hood and duct are built to contain a fire and keep it from spreading into the building. The fire suppression system is what detects and puts it out. They do different jobs, and both have to work.

That is why at MC², our work goes beyond simple mechanical service. We are protecting the restaurants, schools, and hospitals where Metro Detroit lives and eats. We take that seriously by refusing to cut corners. For us, mission-driven safety means pulling every permit, holding to fire code, and telling you the honest truth when a system needs full replacement instead of a temporary patch. We don't just service ventilation. We secure your facility's future.

Our Credentials: The Gold Standard in Kitchen Mechanicals

At MC², we don't just "work on" hoods—we are factory-trained and state-licensed to manage the most complex ventilation environments in Michigan. Our credentials represent a level of technical mastery that ensures your facility is safe, efficient, and fully compliant with all local and national standards.
