Our Streamlined Installation Process

At Michigan Commercial Mechanical Contracting (MCMC), we take pride in managing every step of your HVAC and commercial kitchen ventilation project—from initial design to ongoing support. Our streamlined process ensures safe, efficient, and code-compliant solutions for Metro Detroit’s foodservice community.

1. Consultation & Planning

Every successful project starts with a conversation. Whether you bring a fully developed architectural plan or a sketch, our team works closely with you to understand your site, needs, and compliance requirements. We develop a custom hood design and complete mechanical plan, partnering with engineers to ensure your system is properly sized and balanced.

2. Equipment Selection & Ordering

Once designs are approved, our sales team helps you select the right hood systems, exhaust fans, make-up air units, control packages, and fire protection systems. We leverage our industry experience and relationships with top manufacturers to ensure timely, accurate delivery of every component.

3. Equipment Delivery & Staging

All equipment is shipped directly from the factory to our Clinton Township warehouse for receiving and inspection. We verify accuracy and condition before coordinating seamless delivery to your jobsite—eliminating delays and making sure everything is ready for installation when you are.

4. Pre-Construction Meeting & Permits

Before installation begins, we host a pre-construction meeting with owners, general contractors, and all relevant trades. We review the full project scope, outline contract responsibilities, and discuss permits (mechanical, building, and fire system). This preparation keeps everyone aligned and your project on schedule.

5. Installation Kickoff

Our expert field team starts with kitchen hood hanging and rooftop curb placement, following engineered drawings for perfect alignment and clearance. Proper hood and curb installation is vital for duct routing, airflow, and system safety.

6. Equipment Set & Duct Inspection

After roof curbs are prepped, we lift rooftop units into place with certified crane crews, secure them per manufacturer specs, and arrange any necessary welding or inspections (such as the “light test” on welded grease ducts) to ensure code compliance.

7. Ductwork & Fire Wrap Preparation

Ductwork is fabricated and installed to SMACNA and NFPA 96 standards. Once welded, it is tested and inspected before fire wrap is applied. This phase also allows other trades (electricians, gas fitters, fire suppression) to get to work smoothly and efficiently.

8. Fire Protection & Safety Systems

Certified technicians install fire wrap and Ansul fire suppression systems. All fire protection meets UL 1978 and NFPA 96 standards—protecting your kitchen, ensuring code compliance, and preparing for final inspection.

9. Final Connections & System Start-Up

With fire protection in place, we coordinate utility connections and system start-up—testing fan rotation, airflow, and temperature controls. If contracted, we complete all gas piping and pressure testing for a safe and seamless launch.

10. Air Balancing & Final Inspection

Our certified air balancers verify all systems for appropriate airflow, pressure, and temperature balance. Adjustments are made, and all equipment is tested to ensure a smooth inspection process with local authorities—meeting all state and national codes.

11. Training, Closeout & Warranty

After passing inspection, we commission the system and provide hands-on staff training for daily operation, maintenance, and safety. You receive complete closeout documentation, including balancing reports, warranties, and inspection approvals.

12. Preventive Maintenance & Support

Keep your investment in top condition with our Preventive Maintenance Program. Regular visits, seasonal check-ups, and priority service keep your system efficient, code-compliant, and reduce downtime for years to come.

13. Ongoing Support & Emergency Service

Our relationship doesn’t end at installation. MCMC offers fast, reliable support and 24/7 emergency service by familiar, Michigan-licensed technicians. When you call us, you get dedicated support from the team that knows your system best.
